Autoworld yesterday announced the completion of its K55 million sponsorship towards the hosting of the 2007 Zambia international motor rally that revs off in Lusaka tomorrow.
Autoworld chairman, Noble Findlay, presented a cheque to Zambia Motor Sports Association (ZMSA) president, Derek Conroy, at the last sponsors' press briefing at the company's premises along Freedom Way.
Findlay presented a K15 million cheque having already handed ZMSA a similar amount a month ago when Autoworld first announced its pledge to the annual event that has legs in Lusaka and Chisamba.
He said the remaining part of the total K55 million would be offset in form of drivers using Autoworld's new state of the art fitment centre aong Kafue Road and hoped the equipment there excites the drivers.
"Autoworld has been sponsoring motor sport for over 15 years now. We are proud to be back again this year to be part of the sponsors' family as Zambia hosts, the international rally," he said.
Findlay said Autoworld was grateful to its suppliers and presented Tireworld managing director, Mark Mead, whose company's partnership with Autoworld was coincidentally marking its 10th anniversary yesterday.
The chairman said without its suppliers, the company would not have found itself at such a competitive level in the market saying the good relationship that exists between the two parties was cordial.
Mead welcomed the move by Autoworld to be part of the sponsorship of such social amenities like motor rally and that his South African based company was also active in the support of HIV/AIDS support programes.
He said Tireworld was happy to be supplying the Zambian market with products such as Goodyear Continental tyres and Freestart Batteries with the supply further enhanced by the warm relationship with Autoworld.
Conroy said Autoworld had over the year provided its facilities for the scrutineering prior to the international rally and hoped the company would always be there even in future for ZMSA to be able to host the event.
He thanked the sponsors for their continued support in the development of motor sports in the country and named those that have confirmed their support as; Toyota Zambia, Total Zambia, Holiday Inn, Madison Insurance, Group 3 Security and Amerex Fire Equipment.
Conroy said ZMSA was happy that local driver Muna Singh was assured of finishing second on the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) charts while his navigator was headed for glory on the continent with a good finish on Sunday.
